Application of matting powder in powder coatings. Powder coatings are a new type of solvent-free 100% solid powder coating. It has the characteristics of solvent-free, pollution-free, recyclable, environmentally friendly, energy and resource saving, reduced labor intensity and high mechanical strength of coating film.

Powder coating matting is divided into two categories:

1. Physical matting: that is, the use of inorganic filler filling method to reduce the gloss of the coating film. In addition, the addition of stearates, wax micropowders and metal salt complexes, metal organic compounds, polymers incompatible with the system and other methods can also achieve the purpose of physical matting. Tianshi matting wax powder can provide powder coatings with excellent hardening and scratch resistance, and has a certain matting effect, which is suitable for matte systems.

2. Chemical matting: Two powder coatings with similar properties but different activities are mixed in appropriate proportions. Due to differences in reaction activity or curing temperature, the gloss of the coating film is reduced.

During baking, the wax powder will float to the surface of the coating film and form a mist, thereby reducing the gloss. If the wax powder is used alone, the recommended dosage is 0.5-2.0%. Using matte wax powder in products with 55-85° gloss can not only overcome the effect of filler matte on the flatness of the coating surface, but also overcome the unfavorable factor of unstable gloss due to the small amount of chemical matte agent used indoors and outdoors.

TIANSHI recommends using micronized wax as much as possible in such applications because it is easy to disperse. If flaky wax is used, when it is added to 2.0%, there will be tiny depressions on the coating surface, and after re-extrusion, the depressions will only increase. In addition, the powder has a strong sense of wetness and poor chargeability.
