Paraffin wax is a hydrocarbon produced by the splitting of mineral oils. Its properties are very different. The melting point is in the range of 45°C to 75°C. Paraffin wax with a low melting point is milky white to the naked eye and brittle to the touch. Paraffin wax with a high melting point, the meat is light yellow when viewed from the meat, and it is soft to hard to the touch, and not easy to break.

The best form of paraffin wax is emulsifying wax. Emulsifying wax has the characteristics of acid and alkali resistance, strong water solubility, emulsion stability, long shelf life, high solid content and good dispersibility. High-melting paraffin is hard, difficult to slice, and its softness is not suitable, but thinner slices can be cut; low-melting paraffin has low hardness and insufficient support for slices, making it difficult to cut flakes. In order to produce high-level and high-quality pathological tissue sections and various tissue sections, if the selected paraffin has a high melting point and the hardness of the paraffin is hard, the sections are difficult to cut and the softness is not suitable. If paraffin with a lower melting point is selected, the hardness will be reduced, the support force of the slice is not enough, and it is difficult to cut thin slices.
