Application of polyethylene wax in rubber

2022-01-15   Pageview:713

Polyethylene waxes are a class of low molecular weight polymers, and they are good processing aids for natural and synthetic rubbers. Their characteristic low melting point, low melt viscosity, good compatibility and comprehensive chemical inertness allow polyethylene waxes to have excellent lubricating properties without affecting their vulcanization rate or physical properties.

 Impact of product application

1, Lubricating properties

2, Improve rubber processing performance

3, Does not affect the vulcanization of rubber

  Advantages of product application:

1. Excellent demoulding properties for kneader openers and calender rolls.

2. Does not adversely affect scorching, vulcanization rate or general physical properties (tensile strength, elongation, hardness).

3. No precipitation in raw or vulcanized materials.

4. Enhances the dispersion of fillers, especially carbon black.

5. Improves in-mold flow and mold release.

6. Increases extrusion rate and improves surface properties.

7. Compatible with all elastomers.

8. Good chemical resistance and oxidation resistance.

9. Good electrical properties.

10.Easy to disperse at 75-95℃ and above.

What role does polyethylene wax play in rubber processing and how does it work?

Polyethylene wax can substantially improve the processability of rubber compounds and the homogeneity of the product. Due to the low softening point and viscosity of polyethylene wax, it has good lubricating effect. The extrusion rate, surface quality of the extrudate, shrinkage and surface smoothness are greatly improved. The polyethylene wax allows good release of the mixture from the calender rolls, open rolls and dies. In-die flow is also significantly improved. This allows polyethylene wax to reduce energy consumption, increase productivity and save costs. Polyethylene wax is a relatively inert material and therefore does not affect scorch. In some cases, the mechanical properties of the product can be improved due to its effective dispersion of reinforcing fillers.

What are the current applications of polyethylene wax in rubber industry?
Polyethylene wax is commonly used in SBR, neoprene, EPDM, fluoroelastomers, chlorosulfonated polyethylene rubber, nitrile rubber and in the tire industry; it is useful for the dispersion of carbon black and can improve the properties of the mixture. Polyethylene wax is also suitable for all elastomer products, especially TPV.
