What is the role of adding wax emulsion to water-based wood paint? Water-based wood paint is divided into high-gloss system, matte system and semi-matte system. The wax emulsion models used in different systems are different. Wax emulsion mainly plays the role of wear resistance, waterproof, hand feel, scratch resistance and anti-adhesion in water-based wood paint.

Application of wax emulsion in water-based wood paint:

1. Anti-adhesion:

Wax emulsion is of great help to the anti-adhesion of paint film. It is generally believed that the increase of wax particle size is helpful for the anti-adhesion effect, and paraffin products are better than polyethylene wax products.

2. Scratch resistance:

High-density polyethylene wax products are the first choice, and their high hardness, low friction coefficient and toughness provide excellent protection for the coating. The increase of wax particle size is helpful for the scratch resistance and wear resistance of the coating.

3. Water repellency:

Paraffin emulsion provides excellent water repellency, and the “lotus leaf effect” can be achieved after the formula is optimized.
4. Impact on gloss:

1) High gloss system; Oxidized high-density polyethylene wax emulsion is known as “the best surface protection material for high gloss system”. It provides anti-adhesion, anti-scratch and anti-wear while also helping gloss.

2) Matting effect: Reduce the amount of matting powder, thereby reducing sedimentation and improving the storage stability of the system. It can promote smooth hand feel, anti-scratch coating, and improve the anti-polishing effect of matte coating. These properties are incomparable to the use of silicon-based matting powder alone.

3) Polishing effect: Polyethylene wax, polypropylene wax and other high-melting point synthetic waxes are not easy to be polished, and are often used in high-gloss systems to prevent gloss loss, while Fischer-Tropsch wax, palm wax and other hard waxes with lower melting points are often used in polishing agent systems that require polishing.

5. Anti-slip: PP wax has high hardness, high melting point, high temperature resistance, and a large friction coefficient. Therefore, it plays an anti-adhesion and anti-scratch role in systems that require anti-slip, such as floor paint.
