Application of polyethylene wax in plastics

Polyethylene wax is also known as low molecular weight polyethylene, macromolecule wax, PE wax for short. Polyethylene wax has been industrially produced in foreign countries in the early 1950s and has been widely used. It has developed rapidly and has become a lubricant, brightener and dispersant for plastics, rubber, leather, paints, pigments, hot melt adhesives, candles, low-voltage electrical appliances, cosmetics, etc.

Since polyvinyl chloride resin is unstable to heat during molding, it is necessary to add heat stabilizers or molding lubricants during molding. Lubricants can prevent resin from staying in plastic products processing machinery or cause resin decomposition due to local overheating, and make resin easy to mold. Generally, there are three types of lubricants: internal lubricants, which are characterized by reducing friction between PVC molecules and improving internal fluidity; external lubricants that prevent resin from adhering to the inner wall of the processing molding machine; lubricant.

The compatibility of lubricants and resins depends on the molecular structure of lubricants, such as carbon chain length, molecular polarity, etc.

Because polyethylene wax has a long carbon chain and no polar group, it can be used as an external lubricant for PVC. If high-density and medium-density polyethylene waxes are used for calendering, extrusion and injection molding The molding lubricant will produce the following effects.

1, Excellent external lubrication effect

During calendering, it has the effect of preventing sticking to the roll; during extrusion molding, injection molding, and molding, it can effectively prevent sticking to the screw and mold, improve the demoulding effect, and improve the aesthetics of plastic products.

2, Has the effect of internal lubrication

Especially chlorinated polyethylene wax, because of the polar group in its molecule, can also play the effect of internal lubrication.

3, Does not affect transparency

Polyethylene wax is added to PVC. When the dosage is 1, it does not affect the transparency of PVC, but high-density polyethylene wax (molecular weight 2000-4000) or low acid value type of chlorinated polyethylene wax (about acid value, molecular weight 4000), it has the least impact on the transparency of PVC.
