Solvent-based resins are lyophilic resins, and their molecular weight and solid content have a great influence on viscosity. The steric hindrance formed by the long chain of the resin itself helps the suspension of inorganic substances. Thickeners play an auxiliary role when necessary.
The difference in rheology control
In latex paint, different ways of thickening the continuous phase with water will produce different rheological results for the paint. The volume fraction of water in latex paint is very high, generally reaching 55%~65%. But it does not mean that all water is used as a continuous phase. The particle size, bulk density, specific surface area, crystal structure, shape, oil absorption, etc. of the inorganic matter in the suspension will affect the dispersion stability of the inorganic matter. The formation of aggregates or agglomerates polyolefin wax will transform part of the continuous phase of water into The dispersed phase will eventually affect the rheology of the coating, especially the high PVC latex paint. In the low PVC latex paint, the density of inorganic matter is high, the number of parts is small, the water retention effect is poor, the amount of emulsion is high, the volume of water as the continuous phase is high, the paint construction and storage performance requirements are also high, rheology additives The associative effect is more prominent.
In solvent-based coatings, the resin forms a true solution in the solvent. The rheological properties mainly control the rheological properties of the resin, PVC and the selection of inorganic substances with appropriate specific surface area and oil absorption.
The difference in defoaming
As the third component of emulsifier in the emulsion, the coating has a strong foam stabilizing effect. Various additives used in latex paint are either derivatives of surfactants or substances containing surfactants, which also have foam stabilizing effects. In order to get rid of the air introduced by the preparation and construction in time, it is necessary to add a defoamer (anti foamer or defoamer).
