Powder coatings are moving forward day by day, new products are coming out, pure poly outdoor powder coatings with excellent performance, with a wider and wider range, such as traffic vehicle parts, agricultural machinery parts, aluminum alloy doors and windows, street light poles and so on.

Single high-gloss powder coating can not meet this demand, so there is an outdoor matte or even non-gloss powder coating.

Pure polyester system commonly used matting methods for filler matting, add incompatible substances such as wax powder matting, two reaction speed powder dry mix matting, add matting agent matting, etc., commonly used matting agent generally have catalyst modified wax matting agent, polyacid + catalyst composite matting curing agent, compound catalyst + incompatible reactive polymer type matting agent, these matting methods have their advantages, but these matting methods are difficult to achieve below 10%, or even 5% gloss, only epoxy acrylic resin matting to achieve <10% gloss and have good stability.

Acrylic is widely used in the coating industry, especially in water-based coatings, because acrylic coatings have excellent weather resistance and good anti-corrosion properties, and strong decorative properties.

However, the market share of acrylic coatings in the powder method is very small. Epoxy alkyd matting powder coatings can achieve a polar effect of less than 10 degrees, gloss stability. But this type of powder coatings exist innate deficiencies such as more expensive, poor mechanical properties, it is difficult to pass 50cm anti-surface scratches and wear resistance is poor, the surface is easy to bright spots, flowers limit the expansion of its application. The application of wax in powder coating can play the effect of matting and brightening, hardening and anti-scratch, defoaming and degassing, slippery and anti-caking, etc.

The application of wax as additive in powder coatings is to improve the surface properties of the coating, which mainly includes improving the smoothness and scratch resistance of the coating as well as improving the water resistance. Later it was used to influence the rheological properties of coatings, such as degassing, improving leveling and matting ability, and changing the surface state of coatings. Nowadays, there is an increasing interest in waxes with a multifunctional combination of properties.
