What effect does wax emulsion have on paint film? Wax emulsion is roughly evenly dispersed in the system. 1. Degassing: For metal substrates, such as cast iron, cast aluminum, and zinc, they must avoid small molecules, and polyethylene wax emulsion solves coating defects such as pores, bubbles and depressions caused by the substrate.
2. Improve leveling: Since the substrates of architectural coatings and industrial coatings are very different, especially the substrates of industrial coatings are diverse, it is very important for water-based wax emulsions with good wetting and leveling effects, so they have better wetting effects in resin-coated fillers and pigments.
3. Improve the smoothness of paint film: Basically, every wax emulsion has the effect of improving the smoothness of the paint film and increasing the storage stability of the paint. Add a small amount of polyethylene wax emulsion, and it will not easily stick to the cooling roller after extrusion.
4. Control gloss: During baking, the wax component will float to the surface of the coating to form a transparent paint film. The finer the particle size, the less gloss it will reduce. However, if the particle size is coarse enough, it may have the effect of reducing gloss. Wax emulsion can maintain the gloss of the paint surface at a certain temperature.
5. Wear resistance, scratch resistance, and abrasion resistance: The wax component is distributed on the surface of the coating to protect the coating, prevent scratches, abrasions, and provide wear resistance.
The use of wax emulsion can not only improve the scratch resistance of the paint film, but also affect the adhesion and gloss resistance of the paint film. One of the mechanisms of action of wax emulsion can be called floating theory, that is, after the wax emulsion is dispersed in the coating system, during the physical drying or cross-linking curing process after coating, the wax particles will float to the surface of the paint film and gradually migrate to the surface of the paint film, playing a certain protective role. The wax particles themselves have poor adhesion and are not easy to combine with other materials.
