EAA Emulsion: What Is EAA?

2024-10-31   Pageview:31

With the increasing pressure of environmental protection, ethylene acrylic acid (EAA) is a polymer with thermoplasticity and high adhesion. Due to the presence of carboxyl groups and the effect of hydrogen bonds, the crystallization of the polymer is suppressed, which is mainly due to the destruction of the linearity of the chain, so the transparency and toughness of EAA are improved, and the melting point and softening point are reduced.

What are the application scenarios + recommended formulas of EAA?

Application scenarios: aviation lunch boxes, small can tea packaging, PE plastic coating, medicine box coating (aluminum foil-PVC/PP/PS), food packaging (yogurt packaging, Tetra Pak packaging), battery toothbrush packaging, mask independent packaging (paper film), medical dialysis paper (paper film).

Formula: EAA+PU hot melt polyurethane wetting leveling defoamer water-based wax (anti-sticking does not affect heat sealing).

Note: heat sealing substrate, coating thickness, hot pressing temperature (including sealing temperature and use temperature), time and pressure, barrier and anti-sticking.

What are the application cases of EAA?
Application scenario: Airline lunch box process: Roll coating (inside and outside coating) on aluminum foil, winding, forming as required, heat sealing.
Coating thickness: 8-10 dry film coated once.
Heat sealing temperature: 180-220 degrees, lasting 3 seconds Performance requirements: The coating is fold-resistant and has certain barrier properties; the heat sealing performance after 2H boiling is acceptable, the sealing temperature should not be lower than 100 degrees, and the heat sealing performance meets food contact.

With the increase of environmental pressure, especially the implementation of the domestic plastic ban, many plastic products are gradually replaced by “green” paper products. Especially in the field of takeout, fast food, logistics and other flexible packaging, the demand for paper packaging materials is getting higher and higher. EAA (ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer) emulsion is coated on paper or aluminum foil.
